Day 6&7
October 14th and 15th, 2006
"The first weekend! "
This weekend, in spite of the weather, was very good. Spent much of the afternoons canvassing in my neighborhood, and was very pleased to hear the effusive words of encouragement and support from people at the doors.
On Saturday afternoon, after canvassing, I went to speak at the Elvis Sighting society Blacktie Beanfest Fundraiser. Had a great time and got a chance to catch up with some old friends, including Elvis, many of whom are quite accomplished philanthropists.
After that I went to the Maharaja Ball at the Congress Centre. The Maharaja Ball is a fundraiser and its name is Hindi for High King. This fundraiser raises money and awareness for placing more life saving defibrillators in schools around the city. This year it created the first national program to advocate to have defibrillators placed in every high school in the country. What a city and people to be proud of!
Sunday morning I did some canvassing and some main-streeting in Westboro, it is amazing to see how much this community has grown, not only in size but in vibrancy and culture. This city from end to end is an amazing place, and I am looking forward to the opportunity, that this campaign gives, to address every corner and community in Ottawa to express my vision for what Ottawa is and should be.
Sunday afternoon I spent doing laundry and other neglected household chores. I took breaks to study for some of the many debates coming up this week.
Sunday evening I attended the India Canada Association’s Diwali Celebration, then back home to study more and maybe catch some of the evening news!
This weekend I made it a cumulative 15 km, must be all that canvassing!
Hope you all had a great weekend.
