Day 11
October 19th
"Plan for the East End of Ottawa . "
“Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to produce uncommon results.” This is so true. Today was a day of preparation, a lot occurred. I am fortunate to have such a great team of people to work with, from our Councilors to my campaign team, all with the goal to each day make Ottawa a better place for all of us to live.
I spent the majority of the morning in meetings and preparing for a busy day. I joined with members of CUPE 503 for an interviewing, addressing a number of issues and concerns both upcoming and continuous. Such encounters are extremely important; to hear first hand from individuals allows me to grasp a greater understanding of how citizens are viewing our city and our system. After lunch, which was a light one since breakfast was so great yesterday, Maria Cook interviewed me. We engaged in some great discussion regarding the growth of our city “Smart Growth” and topics around urban infill.
Back to the prep-board! Today I also joined Mathieu Nadon of CBC-TV French to discuss topics affecting our large Francophone community and prepared for the evening’s Cumberland-Orleans Debate – and it was good one.
Well, the biggest part of my day, as I hope you have already heard, is the announcement of my East End Ten-Point Economic Development Plan. Through countless hours of teamwork, with the assistance of Francophone and Anglophone business leaders, we have created a plan to further develop Ottawa East. Some of the points include being committed to improving public transit by expanding the new 90 series bus routes, maintaining express bus service, and building a new Transitway Station on Jeanne d’Arc Blvd; establish a “Heart of Orleans” BIA along St Joseph Boulevard; and appoint a staff person in the Mayor’s Office who will be responsible for driving economic development in the East End. If you want to know more about my plan, which I hope you do, you can find the full press release here on my website.
A quick snack is in order and then au dormir!!
